Permanent Resident Cards
Permanent Resident Cards (PR Cards) serve as proof of a person’s status as a permanent resident in Canada. We assist clients in applying for new PR Cards and renewals, ensuring compliance with residency obligations and timely submissions.
PR Card and Renewal:
To be eligible for a PR card, you need to
- Be a permanent resident
- Submit your application in Canada
If your PR card isn’t ready before you leave Canada or if you’re outside Canada without a valid PR card, you need to apply for a permanent resident travel document (PRTD). After you return to Canada, apply for a PR card.
You should only apply for a PR card if:
- Your card has expired or will expire in less than 9 months
- Your card is lost, stolen or destroyed and you want to replace it
- You didn’t receive your card within 180 days of immigrating to Canada
You need to update your card to
- Legally change your name
- Change your citizenship
- Change your gender designation
- Correct your date of birth
You must submit a separate application with the correct fees for each person in your family who needs a PR card, regardless of their age.

Application for renouncing permanent resident status: This involves voluntarily renouncing permanent residency status in Canada. This may be necessary for individuals who no longer wish to live in Canada or who wish to obtain citizenship of another country.
Overall, this feature provides information and assistance for individuals who are permanent residents of Canada and need to manage their PR status, including renewing PR cards, obtaining travel documents, and renouncing permanent residency status.
